Know more about the culture of the country

The international business person needs to know something about the culture of the country in which the business will operate or to which the company’s products and service are directed. Culture is the sum of the values, attitudes, beliefs, and habits of a specific group of people. While each culture is different, you can be prepared by learning about several of the major world cultures. A knowledgeable business person needs to know why cultures are different, what the important elements of each culture are, and how culture affects the way people think, make decisions, and act.
The economic environment of countries is an important part of international business as an area for study. A study of international economics includes an understanding of the monetary structure, banking system, natural and human resources, and economic traditions of countries. Business people need to be familiar with differences in political and legal structures, namely, the type of government, laws, and political methods of the country. An understanding of taxes, quotas, and trade agreements is also critical.
Currently, English is the international language of business. However, there is no substitute for understanding the language of your international contact. People are favorably impressed when you take the trouble to learn some of their language. It is difficult to predict which languages will be the most important in your future. Your commitment to study and learn a second language will impress employers as well as your international contacts. You will also find it easier to learn an additional language if needed later.
